The Council of Europe will participate in the 2016 edition of the Brussels Book Fair, which will be held from 18 to 22 February this year (Tour & Taxis). This fair is a major cultural event since more than 40 years, welcoming more than 70.000 visitors every year.

In addition to its activities and its most recent publications, the Council of Europe will present its new educational game on Europe’s shared values: freedom of expression, a fair justice system, gender equality, abolition of death penalty, free elections, and diversity / non-discrimination. Intended for teachers of primary school, this game gives the opportunity to combine classroom play activity with discussion about the core values that enable us to live together in society.

Finally, the Council of Europe organises on Saturday 20 February from 4 to 5 pm on the “Place de l’Europe” (Hall 1 of the Fair) a meeting debate on the future of journalism, with Françoise Tulkens, former Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights, Ricardo Gutierrez, General Secretary of the European Federation of Journalists, Lecturer at the Université libre de Bruxelles, Stéphane Hoebeke, legal counsellor by RTBF and responsible for the media education, Jean-Paul Marthoz, correspondent in Europe for the Committee to Protect Journalists (New York), columnist for Le Soir; the debate will be moderated by Onur Andreotti, Coordinator of the Task Force for Freedom of Expression and Media, Council of Europe.
