La pauvreté est devenue un défi pour les sociétés européennes. L'emploi est souvent considéré comme le meilleur atout pour en sortir et, inversement, le chômage représente une cause majeure de pauvreté et d'exclusion sociale. Cependant, le fait d'avoir un emploi ne suffit pas toujours à prémunir les travailleurs contre la pauvreté, et l'emploi faiblement rémunéré est devenu un sujet politique important en Europe.L'autonomisation des personnes confrontées à la grande pauvreté dans leur vie quotidienne est l'une des stratégies visant à combattre ce phénomène. L'autonomisation fournit aux personnes en situation de pauvreté des outils qui renforcent leurs capacités à surmonter la situation.Cet ouvrage a pour but d'aider les décideurs politiques et les prestataires de services aux niveaux national et local à développer des stratégies efficaces pour améliorer la situation des travailleurs à faible revenu et pour encourager l'autonomisation des personnes confrontées à la grande pauvreté en Europe.Il contribue de manière importante à la mise en oeuvre de la Stratégie de cohésion sociale révisée du Conseil de l'Europe et à l'Année européenne de lutte contre la pauvreté et l'exclusion sociale, lancée en 2010 par l'Union européenne.
