In this publication, based on the findings of the three-year "Media in civic education" project, the media's influence on pupil's lives throughout Europe, and the way pupils can learn to recognise this is investigated. Divided into three parts, the work begins setting the context for the project and then goes on to outline some workshop projects involving teachers and some international projects involving classes from different European countries.
Practical suggestions for running joint projects with other European classes, as well as material which can be used in the classroom to encourage pupils to be more critically aware of the power of the media, can both make significant contributions to helping Europe's youth remain streetwise about the media's messages.
