PDF - The organisation of language education in small states (2003)
The experiences of small States in the area of the organisation and set-up of language education may in certain respects differ substantially from the experiences of larger States. Considering the importance that is attributed, on a European scale, to the protection of linguistic and cultural diversity, to the promotion of education for plurilingualism in general, and to the promotion of diversification in language teaching, especially for lesser used languages, the experiences of these countries are of particular interest.
The ECML explored the issue in a series of activities in order to sensitise experts and the wider public to this question. The situation in five countries: Andorra, Finland, Hungary, Iceland and Malta, was closely looked at and this was supplemented by a regional workshop in Andorra.
This publication presents a brief report on the event by the coordinator of the project, Francesca Junyent Montage, the five case descriptions and a resumé by the rapporteur général of the event, Antoinette Camilleri.
