Konsultativno veće evropskih sudija, savetodavno telo Saveta Evrope je tokom protekle dve decenije posvećeno radilo na formulisanju standarda dobrog sudstva u različitim oblastima. Priznajući različitosti pravnih i sudskih sistema i prepoznajući kvalitete i nedostatke nekih od njih, u svojim Mišljenjima ovo telo ukazivalo je na standarde koji su od ključnog značaja kako za sudski sistem u celini, tako i za sudije pojedince.

Mišljenja su odigrala važnu ulogu u reformama sudskih sistema, naročito u državama u tranziciji, kao što je Srbija danas. Istovremeno, ona su osnažila sudije da jasno afirmišu sudsku vlast kao ravnopravnu, treću granu vlasti.
