The organisation of health care services in prisons in European member states (1998)
As a part of a series of studies on the health protection of vulnerable groups, the European Health Committee set up a research study group to look into the organisation of health care in prisons and to consider the special health problems of prison populations, to examine present systems of health care and identify areas for improvement, to specify the rights of prisoners to proper health care and outline the principles which should govern their access to proper health care.
The present report is based on replies to a questionnaire concerning the organisation of health care in prisons as well as information obtained during visits to a number of member states.
