It is an established fact that disease-related hospital undernutrition is reaching significant levels (20-50%) in all European countries. An increasing number of initiatives to improve the situation with respect to nutritional practices has been demonstrated across Europe.
The present report is the result of a study carried out by the Ad hoc Group on Nutritions Programmes in Hospitals for the Committee of Experts on Nutrition, Food and Safety and Consumer Health.
It examines the major barriers for proper nutritional care in hospitals and recommends measures to surmount these obstacles.
