The aim of this monograph, which tackles motifs and characters of Romany origin in European literature, arguing that they raise not only esthetic and artistic problems, but also human problems, is to use selected texts as food for thought, a reminder of our shared past and a way to establish dialogue. This will allow us to get to know one another better and favour improved understanding between peoples of Europe and the Romanies, who for centuries have been deprived of their rights.
