A judicial system is not effective if the judge's decisions are not executed.
The Council of Europe brought together representatives of the twenty countries of central and eastern Europe as well as interested European organisations and institutions, to discuss this subject which is essential to the development of legal systems in Europe.
The aims of this seminar were to analyse the consequences of the execution of court decisions, to define the essential principles which each member state of the Council of Europe should respect in executing cases, and to learn about the different systems in Europe. There was special emphasis on the persons involved in the execution of court decisions, writs of execution, the subject of proceedings, methods of execution and the distribution of assets.
