Les voix irrépressibles des femmes des communautés de Roms et de Gens du voyage

Douze millions de Roms et de Gens du voyage vivent actuellement en Europe, dont six millions dans l'Union européenne. Leurs voix sont fortes et claires, en particulier celles des femmes et des filles. Elles réclament l'égalité des droits et des chances, luttent pour la justice, défendent leurs propres droits et ceux d'autres personnes qui ont été rejetées aux marges de la société. Elles s'émancipent, jettent des ponts, et apportent un soutien lorsque les systèmes échouent. Ensemble, elles s'efforcent de construire un avenir où chacune et chacun a sa place.

Pourtant, leurs voix restent souvent ignorées, exclues des tables de décisions, non respectées ni écoutées. Dans beaucoup trop d'endroits, elles sont confrontées à une haine et à une discrimination féroces.

Afin de mieux défendre les droits humains des Roms et des Gens du voyage, le Commissaire aux droits de l'homme du Conseil de l'Europe, Michael O'Flaherty, a passé une grande partie des années 2024 et 2025 à parcourir l'Europe pour leur rendre visite et les rencontrer. Le présent ouvrage est le récit de ces rencontres. Il décrit ce qu'il a vu et entendu. Ce livre est également un appel au réveil de chaque citoyen du continent afin de contribuer à construire une Europe pour tous.

Le Commissaire aux droits de l'homme du Conseil de l'Europe promeut la prise de conscience et le respect effectif des droits humains dans les 46 États membres de l'Organisation. Michael O'Flaherty a entamé son mandat de six ans en avril 2024.
