This seminar, organised by the Venice Commission in co-operation with the University of Vilnius, brought together members of constitutional and international courts and university professors. It covered specific bilateral and multilateral treaties, such as the new Convention on Nationality of the Council of Europe, as well as conventional human rights guarantees. In the wake of the dissolution of several European states, the spotlight has been thrown onto questions of state succession and the rights to nationality. Citizenship was also studied in the context of the integration of states.
