Bon nombre de plantes utilisées en Europe par les agriculteurs, les horticulteurs et les exploitants forestiers ne sont pas indigènes du continent. Un petit pourcentage de ces plantes introduites délibérément sortent du cadre des cultures, s'intègrent au milieu naturel et envahissent les écosystèmes naturels, semi-naturels ou artificiels. D'autres sont introduites accidentellement et peuvent également se retrouver dans la nature. Ces plantes exotiques envahissantes peuvent avoir de graves conséquences écologiques et économiques, voire nuire à la sante humaine.Ce code de conduite, issu d'une collaboration entre le Conseil de l'Europe et l'Organisation européenne et méditerranéenne pour la protection des plantes, a pour but d'accroitre la coopération entre tous les acteurs des secteurs public et prive impliques dans l'horticulture, pour prévenir de nouvelles invasions de plantes exotiques en Europe.

Sachez exactement ce que vous cultivez : vérifiez la bonne identification des produits destines à être cultives
Tenez-vous informé de la réglementation relative aux plantes exotiques envahissantes
Collaborez avec les autres parties intéressées - celles du commerce et celles des secteurs de la sauvegarde de la nature et de la protection des végétaux
Accordez-vous sur les espèces végétales qui constituent une menace et cessez de les détenir ou de les proposer
Evitez les plantes exotiques envahissantes ou potentiellement envahissantes pour les grands programmes de plantation dans les espaces publics
