Du fait de l'essor de la communication numérique à travers le monde, le journalisme connaît actuellement une profonde mutation. S'éloignant d'une démarche journalistique traditionnelle, le secteur développe un nouveau mode de traitement de l'information appelé « journalisme ouvert ». Il encourage l'intervention et la collaboration en ligne des « utilisateurs/lecteurs », donnant ainsi une nouvelle dimension aux médias et à l'information.

L'article de cet IRIS plus examine les nouvelles formes du journalisme interactif bidirectionnel, qui ne sont encore que partiellement couvertes par les cadres juridiques existants.

L'article de fond procède à l'analyse détaillée du journalisme ouvert en vue de déterminer la nature des sources d'information hors média, ainsi que leur impact sur le contenu des médias et le traitement de l'information. Il examine en particulier le concept du contenu généré par l'utilisateur (CGU) et les différentes significations attribuées à ce terme, en spécifiant les différents types de CGU et les implications juridiques de leurs différences. L'article se penche également sur le contexte réglementaire et politique plus vaste au sein duquel il convient d'évaluer le CGU et explore la relation évolutive entre le CGU et le secteur de l'audiovisuel.
