This collection of short essays on the subject of a 'bridge' has been inspired by the Bridge of Europe across the Rhine at the Strasbourg-Kehl crossing uniting France and Germany. The texts are presented in the original language, and English, French and German translations.
Historical, mythological, literary, linguistic, philosophical and political reflections - the 40 authors create variations on the words bridge and border. Among them are Nobel Prize winners Czeslaw Milosz and Seamus Heaney and promising young literary talents such as Visma Belýevica and Juan Manuel de Prada. All make their mark in this volume in renouncing "old prejudices, divisions, hatreds, intolerance and other errors." (Ismail Kadaré).
These fragments of prose and poetry reveal to the reader the essential values of European culture.
