This symposium attempted to examine school violence across the forty-seven Council of Europe's Council for Cultural Co-operation (CDCC) and the Flemish Community of Belgium, should be seen in the context of member states, focusing on its forms, causes and scale, and then to identify similarities and differences in how the problem is perceived. A selection of case studies on three types of measures implemented in some of the member states to combat violence - at the level of the individual, that of the whole education system and involving the whole community, formed the basis of discussion.
