The processing of personal data in the context of employment – Recommendation CM/Rec(2015)5 and explanatory report (2016)
Right to privacy in the context of employment
The protection of personal data in the context of employment is fundamental to ensuring the full exercise of the right to privacy for employees or applicants.
This also applies to the control over data and security against the risks which might come from using new information and communication technologies.
Recommendation CM/Rec(2015)5 addresses these challenges and provides a set of principles for both the public and private sectors.
Employers are invited to protect and respect the fundamental right to privacy by focusing on the collection, recording and disclosure of personal data, within a company or externally.
