Come può lo studio delle religioni e delle convinzioni non religiose contribuire all’educazione interculturale nelle scuole in Europa? Un’importante raccomandazione del Comitato dei Ministri del Consiglio d’Europa (Raccomandazione CM / Rec (2008)12 sulla dimensione delle religioni e delle convinzioni non religiose nell’educazione interculturale) mira a spiegare la natura e gli obiettivi di questa forma di educazione.
Signposts va ben oltre fornendo consulenza a decisori politici, istituti scolastici (inclusi insegnanti e gruppo dirigenziale) e formatori di insegnanti per affrontare al meglio le questioni sollevate dalla Raccomandazione.
Prendendo in dovuta considerazione i riscontri ricevuti da parte di operatori nel settore dell’educazione, insegnanti e formatori di insegnanti attivi negli Stati membri del Consiglio d’Europa, Signposts fornisce consigli, ad esempio, per comprendere la terminologia utilizzata in questo campo dell’educazione; per sviluppare competenze per l’insegnamento e l’apprendimento, e per adottare diversi approcci didattici; per creare uno “spazio sicuro” in classe propizio per il dialogo tra studenti; per aiutare gli allievi ad analizzare le rappresentazioni delle religioni nei media; per discutere visioni del mondo non religiose al fianco di prospettive religiose; per affrontare temi dei diritti umani relativi a religione e convinzioni personali; per stabilire collegamenti tra istituti scolastici (di vario tipo) e con comunità e organizzazioni più ampie. Signposts non è un piano di studi né un manifesto politico. Esso si prefigge di dare ai decisori politici, agli istituti scolastici e ai formatori di insegnanti che operano negli Stati membri del Consiglio d’Europa, così come ad altri che vogliano farne uso, gli strumenti per trattare trasversalmente i problemi che derivano dalla interpretazione della Raccomandazione, al fine di rispondere alle esigenze particolari di ciascun Paese.
Signposts è il frutto del lavoro di un gruppo internazionale di esperti convocato sotto gli auspici del Consiglio d’Europa e del Centro europeo Wergeland. È stato scritto – per conto del gruppo – dal professor Robert Jackson.
